Adding, Changing and Setting Languages in Microsoft Office
Some users require certain settings for languages and even may require that the application be in an entirely different language itself. This article will show how to add new languages to Microsoft Office and how to set them up or their preferences.
From any Office application click on File
Click on Options
Click on Language
To install a new language, choose “Install Additional Display Languages from Office.com
Choose Language from list and click install
From Office.com click “download” and install the language
After installation you will need to go back to the Language Options (see steps 2 and 3)
Set the Office Language Preferences
To change the display language of the entire applications including buttons and menus, from the “Office Display Language” box select a preferred language and click Set as Preferred. You will have to restart all office applications for changes to take effect
This will change all of the options and menus to a different language which will make reversing this difficult if you are not able to read the language.
To change the language settings and language that is used for proofing and not the overall language of the application, choose a preferred language from the “Office authoring languages and proofing” box and click Set as Preferred. You will have to restart all office applications for changes to take effect .
This can make unexpected changes depending on the language such as changing the side that the application defaults to typing on (e.g. Changing this to a language like Hebrew will cause word to type from right to left by default)
For 8a or 8b if you need to revert back to the previous language, repeat previous steps to set the previous language as the preferred language.
