After migrating our Blackboard authentication service from ADFS to Azure AD, users may experience an SSO error when attempting to login to Blackboard. The following are the most common reasons users run into the SSO error.

Account/Profile Conflicts

If the user is already logged into a personal Microsoft account, it’ll cause conflicts with their @calbaptist.edu account and cause the SSO error when logging into Blackboard. To verify the user is not logged into a personal Microsoft office have the user go to https://www.office.com/. On the top right, click on your initials and check which Microsoft account is currently logged in.

Solution:

Log out of the personal account by clicking “Sign Out”. Restart your browser and and attempt to login again at https://calbaptist.blackboard.com/ .

Expired Sessions

If a user is logged into Blackboard for longer than 8 hours, the session will time-out and result in an SSO error message.

Solution:

Go to https://www.office.com/ and sign out of your @calbaptist.edu email and attempt to login again at https://calbaptist.blackboard.com/ .

How to prevent SSO error

Users can prevent the SSO error by using separate browsers for their Blackboard account and their personal Microsoft account. For example:

  1. Firefox for their CBU/Blackboard account.

  2. Google Chrome for any other personal Microsoft accounts.

This will ensure that there will be no accounts conflicts as they’re contained in separate browsers.
