How to Install EDExpress
This article will go through the steps on how to properly install EDExpress for Windows.
EDExpress is used by financial aid staff and a new version is released every year.
Installing new version of EDExpress and creating the database file (use this method if the newest version is not in \\storage\dept\FinancialAid\DOE):
When installing a new version please use your own CBU computer and not the user’s as there are known issues when creating the database file using the “user’s” computer.
Locate and download the latest version of EDExpress from the official website here: https://fsapartners.ed.gov/knowledge-center/topics/software-and-other-tools/edexpress .
Install the software using “Server install”.
When prompted which network server to install to change the location from the default “Y:\Expres23” to a temp folder on your local machine. Anywhere is fine as long as it is saved on your local machine and you have access to it.
Finish the installation.
After installation, you’ll see a Microsoft Access database file in the temp folder titled “expressYY”.
Navigate to \\storage\dept\FinancialAid\DOE and create a new folder and name it “EDE yy-yy”. (Replace the “y” with the version year).
Copy the database file and installation executable into the folder we just created.
You can now install EDExpress on the user’s computer.
Installing EDExpress:
The following steps should be performed on the user’s computer directly or through a remote session
Navigate to file path \\storage\dept\FinancialAid\DOE
You’ll see EDE folders with the following format: “EDE yy-yy”.
Locate and open the folder with the desired year.
If the newest version does not exist within the folder please refer to the “Installing new version of EDExpress” instructions above.
Run the installation executable as an administrator.
For server type choose “Workstation full”.
For network location enter in the file path where the Microsoft Access database file is: \\storage\dept\FinancialAid\DOE\EDE yy-yy\expresYY.
Click “Next” until the installation is complete.
Ask the user to run the program and login to confirm it is working as intended.
